Raising Resilient Teenagers

How do I continue to keep the lines of communication open?

How do I manage their emotions, especially when I struggle to manage my own sometimes?

What are the issues I should look for before they happen?

How do I strike the balance between tough love and providing comfort and understanding?

Why does he seem to float around and do nothing except play computer games?

About Parent Thinking Space

Parent Thinking Space is a place for you to sit and think and learn from the wisdom of science. A place for parents to thoughtfully consider their lives without judgement or criticism. In the rush of the morning, or the vital down time at night, our children’s difficulties can interrupt and confuse. Adolescence approaches much faster than we thought and before we know it we are thrust into challenges we have no time to think about. Parent Thinking Space has been developed by Dr Kirstin Barchia, Clinical Psychologist and researcher. She has over 20 years experience counselling adolescents and their families. Kirstin has worked on research projects with thousands of adolescents examining school bullying, peer relationships, resilience, lying and delinquent behaviour. Over the past 30 years there has been ground-breaking research into understanding the connection between the developing brain, emotions, and behaviour of teenagers. Parent Thinking Space is a place for parents to access this information in a way that is practical.
